Teaching Adults: Understanding Andragogy and Planning for Meaningful Interactions Online

Customer service is a key component libraries. With far-reaching opportunities, customer service practices may be found in a myriad of interactions. This presentation will focus on developing positive and meaningful interactions with adult library patrons, with a focus on best practices in andragogy.  The definition and principles of andragogy will be covered, as well as various adult learning styles.  Techniques for maximizing adult learning experiences will be shared, with an opportunity for discussion and interaction.
 
Bio: Dr. Katherine Sinsabaugh is an Associate Professor in the Education Department at SUNY Orange, and currently serves as Department Chair.  Katherine attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Psychology/Special Education and an MA in Education. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from Capella University in 2015. Her dissertation utilized quantitative research methodology to explore the personality styles of pre-service teachers. Katherine holds New York State Teaching Certification in both General and Special Education for grades 1-6.  She has a keen interest in adult learning, inspired by her work at the community college.
 
This session is open only to RCLS member libraries. Attendees will receive 1.5 CE hours. This session will take place via Zoom and will not be recorded.
